The Best Cheeseburger

One of my favourite things to eat is a delicious beef burger. The beauty of this recipe is that it can be tailored to fit your own likes. Enjoy some bacon on your burger? Add some bacon. Prefer a slice of beetroot? Add it in. Feel as though an egg is the finishing touch? Cook one up and add it to your own homemade burger. The possibilities are endless!

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 500g beef mince

  • 8 slices cheddar cheese

  • 8 dill pickle slices

  • 4 tomato slices

  • 4 red onion slices

  • Lettuce (I like cos lettuce the best for this, but any will do)

  • Mayonnaise

  • American mustard

  • Tomato/BBQ sauce

  • 4 x Brioche burgers

  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the mince and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Combine well. Divide the mixture into 4 portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten with the palm of your hand. Use your fingers to spread the patties wide so they are even, flat and large (slightly bigger than the size of your burger bun - they will shrink slightly when cooked).

  2. Slice the tomato, onion and cheddar cheese.

  3. Heat a hot pain or BBQ over medium-high heat. Rub some olive oil onto each side of the patties. Place the patties on the hot pan and cook for 1:30 - 2 minutes. Flip the patties over and place the cheese on the just cooked side. Cook the patties for a further 1:00. Place the burger halves onto the pan to toast lightly.

  4. Remove the burger buns and patties from the heat.

  5. Spread each side of brioche bun with some mayonnaise. On the bottom of each bun, squeeze some mustard and your choice of sauce. Place the patty on top of the mustard and sauce, top with some onion slices, tomato slices, pickles, lettuce and the burger bun top.

  6. Enjoy!
